Busted Again by Berkeley Cops!!! Railroaded
by Berkeley’s Police Department Spud’s Beer and Wine License has been suspended by the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Board for 25 days, due to selling a bottle of beer to a Berkeley Police Department decoy in a sting last May, that was designed to ferret out licensed sellers of alcohol who serve minors. When the decoy picked a beer out of the cooler, Spud’s employee properly asked to see the decoy’s id. Unfortunately, due to a mathematical error, the employee thought that the decoy was 21 and not 20. Upon realizing his mistake, the employee followed the decoy out of Spud’s to cancel the sale, only to be stopped by Berkeley Police, who, despite the effort to void the sale, proceeded to cite our employee. Serving alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine that can be as much as $8,000, as well as suspension of the seller’s permit. In this instance, our employee was fined $600.00 and we got our license suspended for 25 days. Do we serve alcohol to minors? NEVER!!! Since our bust we have redoubled our effort to id everyone who may be underage and we have not had even one attempt to purchase alcohol by a minor. Is it fair that BPD focused on us instead of the liqueur and grocery stores that are really the problem? You be the judge!!! |
