Zoning Breakthrough!!!6/06/05 Berkeley's City Council has voted to accept the Mayor's Task Force's recommendations to amend Berkeley's restrictive zoning laws, easing the parking requirement that new businesses have faced. Provided that the second reading of the zoning changes are voted on positively on June 12th, after a 30 day waiting period (allowing public input) Spud's will be eligible to apply for a waiver of the parking requirement. This, in turn, will allow Spud's to apply for a license to sell beer and wine with its meals. This will be Berkeley's second zoning law changed due to the difficulty that Spud's has faced in establishing its new business in Berkeley (Spud's Law II). "It is scant consolation that new businesses will have an easier time starting up..." said Andrew Beretvas, Spud's CEO, "...we have had to wait for over two years for this to happen and nobody will reimburse us for our additional expenses and lost business." "It's better late than never..." Andrew added, "...in the end, all is well that ends well, I just hope that there will be no further delays or complications to stand in the way of our development." Stay tuned for the inauguration of Spud's Pizza & Brew! |
