Requiem for
Spud's Pizza
An Announcement
with Deep Sadness
Dear Friend and
Patron of Spud’s Pizza: In early May of 2003 I noticed a For
Rent sign on the space that we now occupy and I fell in love
with the building instantly.
“What a perfect
location for a pizza restaurant!!!”, I thought. My follow up
research showed that there was a dearth of restaurants in the
neighborhood, none open at night and 47,000 residents in the
one mile circle around the place, high visibility for 50,000
cars daily, etc. etc., the positive indicators just went on
and on. I
thought we could not fail.
Well, I was wrong.
It is now six
years later and we are about to close the restaurant. The fact
of it is that our space is too large and expensive for the
revenue that we produce, in other words we are losing money,
not earning it.
I will let you
make up your own mind as to why it happened, lack of retail
walk-by traffic (as in College Ave.), quality of menu
offerings, less then desirable neighborhood, it does not make
much difference now.
It has been my
privilege to get to know and serve you and I want to take this
opportunity to thank you for your past patronage. I also want
to extend my best wishes to you and yours for the future,
perhaps we’ll meet again.
Currently we plan
to shut down on July 26th, on which day we plan to have a
farewell party to which you are invited and which we hope that
you will attend.
Sincerely,
Andrew Beretvas,
aka. Spud
